A DC 12V Electric Solenoid Lock is an electromechanical device designed to secure or release a mechanism when an electric current is applied. It’s commonly used in applications where controlled access or locking/unlocking mechanisms are required. This lock operates on a 12-volt direct current (DC) power supply. This voltage is commonly used in various electronic systems.
This 12V Lock, drawer or any other moving part, then this lock is perfect for you. You can interface this electromagnetic lock to any Microcontroller, Arduino or even Raspberry Pi using a simple relay if you want you can directly use a one-channel relay driver module.
Solenoids are basically electromagnets: they are made of a big coil of copper wire with an armature (a slug of metal) in the middle. When the coil is energized, the slug is pulled into the centre of the coil. This makes the solenoid able to pull from one end. This solenoid, in particular, is nice and strong and has a slug with a slanted cut and a good mounting bracket.
It’s basically an electronic lock, designed for a basic cabinet or safe or door. Normally the lock is active so you can’t open the door because the solenoid slug is in the way. It does not use any power in this state. When 9-12 Volt DC is applied, the slug pulls in so it doesn’t stick out anymore and the door can be opened.
The lock operates using a solenoid, which is an electromagnetic coil that moves a plunger or rod when energized. This motion is used to engage or disengage the locking mechanism. When the solenoid is not energized (no power applied), the lock is in a default locked position. When power is applied, the solenoid retracts, allowing the lock to open or release.
The lock is designed to be easily mounted onto surfaces, doors, or cabinets, making it suitable for integration into various electronic projects. These electric locks feature a spring return mechanism that automatically returns the lock to the locked position once power is removed.
It’s important to ensure that the lock’s physical design and dimensions are compatible with the specific application and mounting requirements. The electric lock can be integrated with microcontrollers, access control systems, or other electronic devices for remote operation and automation.
DC 12V Electric Locks are widely used in security systems, access control systems, electronic safes, cabinets, and other projects where controlled locking and unlocking are needed.
Caution: Pay attention to factors like voltage compatibility, duty cycle, and safety precautions to ensure the lock meets the requirements of your specific application.
